The 70th anniversary of the MEDIA Office newsletter is a perfect opportunity to talk about the 60th anniversary of Cannes Film Festival. Especially because the name of will be pronounced with true solemnity in the capital of cinema which will be situated in French Riviera in May.
Therefore, I would like to celebrate this fact and congratulate the Tremora studio, the scriptwriter and director Saulius Drunga whose script Anarchoja in Žirmūnai was elected the best among almost 30 short listed European projects and awarded the New Talent in the European Union prize. The Commissioner for Information Society and Media Viviane Reding will award this honourable prize in the evening of May 25 in the presence of Culture and Audiovisual Ministers from the EU member states to the Lithuanian director. Hurra!
To those who are going to
Cannes I would like to remind of several events worth participating in. First of all I invite you to meet representatives of the MEDIA programme from the Executive Agency and discuss questions related to MEDIA sponsorship. The event will take place on May 23 from 10 am. Another interesting seminar on new ways of distribution VoD vs Cinema (‘Commissioned image services or cinema’): the event will take place on May 19 at 2:30 pm. You will find addresses and more detailed information about these events under the heading ‘Home’.
Besides, having in mind that perhaps already in August (the last date for sending applications this year) Lithuanian film professionals will be able to apply for funding from the EURIMAGE Fund (support for production), representatives of the foundation invite to meet on the MEDIA stand (Cannes Film Fair). Use this opportunity to get advice. You can read about the rules of the Fund’s activities and selection criteria on its website http://www.coe.int/T/DG4/Eurimages/Default_en.asp.
This year we will see eleven films supported by the MEDIA programme in official programmes of the Cannes Film Festival. To find out, please, press here.
Of course, as usual, we suggest that you look for all the news about courses, festivals, forums and other interesting events under the heading ‘Home’. Let us hope that the Mediterranean sun and great impressions in cinemas will warm us next week.
Media Programme Office, Andrius L.
