The Anthology of Jonas Mekas

65 min.  –  Documentary  –  65 min., color, video  –  2000 ,   Studija „A Propos“

The pioneer of the new American cinema Jonas Mekas relates his biography, shares his creative credo and his opinion on avant-garde and Hollywood cinema; in candid confessions to the “camera” he reflects on the eternal humanist values.

The film is also an encounter with Mekas’s fellows in avant-garde experimentation: Salvador Dali, John Lennon, Yoko Ono and the pioneer of the anti-academic, anti-art fluxus movement Jurgis Mačiūnas. The film is filled with quotations from Jonas Mekas reflecting his life and cinematographic ideas.

The film was shown during documentary film festivals in Germany, France and Norway as well as in Arsenal, Riga.
