The 7^th International Film Festival Dokumenta Madrid 10 ended yesterday. A documentary film by Julija and Rimantas Gruodis, The River (Upė), won the first prize in the competition of short documentary films.

The full-length feature debut My Joy (Schastye moe) directed by Sergei Loznitsa was screened as part of the Official Selection of the Cannes International Film Festival on May 13 – 23. Several Lithuanian filmmakers have contributed to this film: film editor Danielius Kokanauskis, sound engineer Sigitas Motoras and sound director Vladimir Golovnitski who often works in .

A film by Kristijonas Vildžiūnas, You Am I (2006) was screened yesterday, during the Eastern European Film Festival in Sheffield, , that takes place from April 14 to May 19.

The EuroCine festival will present 27 films from 27 European Union Member States in five European capitals on May 9. European films will be screened in Brussels, Luxemburg, Rome, Madrid, Strasbourg, Lyons and Paris that day.

The premiere of the documentary film ARTISTS directed by Petras Savickis and Liudvika Pociūnienė will take place on October 7 at the National Gallery of Art.

After its success at the 32^nd LUCAS film festival that took place in Frankfurt in September, a feature film by Giedrė Beinoriūtė, The Balcony, continues its international journey. At the beginning of October, this work by the Lithuanian director will be presented at the competition programme of the 7^th Children’s and Youth Film Festival “Michel” () which features eight full-length films. The Children’s and Youth Film Festival “Michel” established by the Filmfest Hamburg in 2003 is successful, valued and liked by young and professional audiences.

After an almost two-year-long creative process and negotiations with international film institutions, the organisers of the European film forum Scanorama have confirmed the rumour that Scanorama will present an impressive spectacle of music and film this year: the premiere of The Passion of Joan of Arc by Carl Theodor Dreyer at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre accompanied by music created especially for this film by Bronius Kutavičius.
