In the trailer of Lithuanian animated film "The Golden Horse" – spellbinding tale with witches, magic and beauty princess

Trailer of the new full-length animated film for entire family, "The Golden Horse", directed by Lithuanian director, animator, manager of the International Animated Film Festival Tindirindis, Valentas Aškinis and well-known Latvian animation artist Reinis Kalnaellis, has been presented. Animated film examines the struggle between good and evil, and creators of "The Golden Horse" believe that the story which is based on the fairy tales of the Balts, and which took even six years to draw by hand, will be particularly close to the Lithuanian audience.

The script for "The Golden Horse" was based mainly on eponymous play by Latvian literary classic Janis Rainis, written in 1911.  In the trailer of the animated film, viewers are introduced to the characters of the tale. Princess Saulė (Sun) who lives in a distant kingdom brings joy and light to her land, but angry and envious of her happiness Black Mother imprisons the virgin girl in a glass coffin on the highest mountain. King falls into despair and invites young men from all corners to return his daughter to him. However, the mountain challenge requires not only strength, agility of legs and dexterity of hands, but also pure heart. 

Those who are interested in folklore will recognize the motifs of Baltic fairy-tales in the animated film "The Golden Horse". According to the creators, this film is a solstice tale, interpretation of the folk myth about the Sun's abduction, young man Aušvydas, Glass Mountain and enchanted Princess Sun, the cruel prince, White Father and Black mother.

As one of the directors V.Aškinis stated, talking about the peculiarities of the film, one might draw attention to the fact that the film was made using the classical 2D animation technology.  "All animation is drawn by hand, three-dimensional animation scenery was used in some episodes", – he explained.

Animated film "The Golden Horse" was created by "Vilanimos" film studio, Rija Films, Paul Thiltges Distribution and Copenhagen-Bombay studios. The main scriptwriter was Cecile Somers, and fabulous images of the charmed tale were taken care of by the artist Xavier Dujarden.

"The Golden Horse", the magic story based on the old Baltic fairy tales and the solstice myth will reach Lithuanian cinema theatres already on 12 December.
