For the first time a Lithuanian short film, Our Father (Tėve mūsų) by Marius Ivaškevičius, was selected to close the Vilnius International Film Festival Kino pavasaris. After causing debate among the audience and having absolutely fascinated the international festival jury, the film is finally going to be shown in cinemas, the cinema Pasaka among them.

Vortex, a feature film directed by Gytis Lukšas, today won the best film prize at the 13^th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.

The premiere of the documentary film ARTISTS directed by Petras Savickis and Liudvika Pociūnienė will take place on October 7 at the National Gallery of Art.

After its success at the 32^nd LUCAS film festival that took place in Frankfurt in September, a feature film by Giedrė Beinoriūtė, The Balcony, continues its international journey. At the beginning of October, this work by the Lithuanian director will be presented at the competition programme of the 7^th Children’s and Youth Film Festival “Michel” () which features eight full-length films. The Children’s and Youth Film Festival “Michel” established by the Filmfest Hamburg in 2003 is successful, valued and liked by young and professional audiences.

After an almost two-year-long creative process and negotiations with international film institutions, the organisers of the European film forum Scanorama have confirmed the rumour that Scanorama will present an impressive spectacle of music and film this year: the premiere of The Passion of Joan of Arc by Carl Theodor Dreyer at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre accompanied by music created especially for this film by Bronius Kutavičius.

A new full-length documentary film directed by Janina Lapinskaitė, Train Stops for Five Minutes, starts its journey around international festivals.

The winner of the national competition for the International Young Screen Entrepreneur of the Year Award’08 organised by the British Council is the executive director of the Spring of Cinema festival Algirdas Ramaška.

On Sunday evening the laureates of the 11^th Shanghai International Film Festival were announced. A drama directed by M. Martinsons, Loss, was awarded two prizes. Maris Martinsons won the Best Director award, and Andrius Mamontovas, the Best Music award.  

 Last week a short film by Jūratė Samulionytė, Non-Routine, won a special jury prize at the Amirani International Student Short Film Festival in Tbilisi ().

During the closing ceremony of the Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People (Greece), the full-length feature film Crow Lake directed by Inesa Kurklietytė was awarded one of the main prizes, the Direction Award. Inesa Kurklietytė presented the film and participated in the closing ceremony. The festival took place in the city of Pyrga , December 1 – 8.

An animated film Easter Egg Morning directed by Jūratė Leikaitė was awarded a special diploma of filmmakers’ jury ‘For Supporting National Traditions’ at the end of the Minsk International Festival of Juvenile Films ‘Listopadik 2007’ (Byelorussia).
