The Film Utterly Alone (Directed by Jonas Vaitkus) will Be Shown during the European Union Film Festival
Utterly Alone, the Lithuanian film that received the largest audience in 2004 and triumphed over many Hollywood movies, will test its success during the 8th Annual European Union Film Festival. Lithuanian film director Jonas Vaitkus has been invited to present his film during the festival that will take place from 4th to 24th of March in Chicago. Almost 40 productions will be shown during the European Union Film Festival. Among the better known films are the French film 5x2 by F. Ozon that is being shown in Lithuania at the moment; Estonian film Made in Estonia shown two years ago, and a documentary BBC film Deep Blue.
The making of the film Utterly Alone, based on real events, took four years. It tells the tragic story of life and love of the Lithuanian freedom fighter J. Lukšas-Daumantas. Over 30 thousand Lithuanians have seen this film. 764 screenings of the film took place in thirty Lithuanian cinemas. During the years of independence, this is the best result for a Lithuanian film in terms of attendance and quality of the film. One more Lithuanian record belongs to this production of Jonas Vaitkus. A video recording and DVD of Utterly Alone were released on the 8th of December that include various additional material related to the film, to the process of making it and to the historical period. Utterly Alone is the first Lithuanian film that has been published in digital form, which one can purchase in all shops selling videos and DVDs.
