In the evening of 1st August, over 30 paper airplanes rose into the air - the crew of Lithuanian feature film "Sangailė" directed by Alantė Kavaitė gathered together to celebrate the start of the production work. A teenage drama produced by Fralita Films and Les Films d'Antoine is already on the runway - the principal photography has already started.

As part of tradition for Lithuanian film sites, on the first day of filming, a plate signed by all crew members is smashed. Each retains a fragment, then brings it to the premiere, where contribution of all participants in the film is brought together into a complete whole.

But creators of "Sangailė" this time decided to bypass the custom and to mark the start of work in an unusual manner: each folded a paper plane, the crew counted together to 17 and released them into the air. "I don't like breakage - commented the film director A. Kavaitė.  - For me, it associates with destruction, negative energy. While the flight of paper planes - with high aspirations and dreams."

The film "Sangailė" is closely related to flying - the main heroine, played by Julija Steponaitytė, dreams of becoming a pilot. To make the dream come true, the girl will get help from her new best friend Austė (Aistė Diržiūtė) and none other than the multiple aerobatics champion Jurgis Kairys.

"I am pleased that after an intensive three-month preparation, the filming works were successfully launched today, - tells the film producer Živilė Gallego. - I very much hope that the five weeks of filming will pass smoothly in spite of the fact that some of the scenes are especially extreme."

Completion of "Sangailė" production work is scheduled for 10 September.  Cast of the film also includes Nelė Savičenko, Martynas Budraitis, Juratė Sodytė and several Lithuanian actors of the younger generation. Production of the film was partially funded by the Lithuanian Film Centre.
