The Summer MEDIA Studio will be held already for the eighth time this year. Its topic is Searching for Documentary Script. From 20 June to 6 July over seventy professional filmmakers from fourteen countries of Europe will work in the young cinematographers’ summer camp. Famous teachers from European film schools will spend three weeks sharing their experiences and advice on writing scripts for documentaries, filming and editing.

This summer, the participants of the Summer MEDIA Studio will meet in Juodkrantė and after the first intensive week of seminars and consultations they will scatter around Kuršių Nerija, Klaipėda and other regions of distant from the coast. Their discoveries and creative insights will crystallize into ten documentaries at the end of the camp, and the best of them will be awarded the main KODAK prize: a kilometre of film stock for the realisation of a new film script and traditional local ‘Oscars,’ Fish sculptures, created by A. Kuzma.

The rumour about the atmosphere vibrant with ideas and possibilities to work in an international team of professionals, which had climbed over Lithuanian borders long ago, has rippled back to the organisers in a pile of applications.

“This year we were forced to become real, and sometimes cruel, selection experts: the number of applicants considerably exceeded available places. The geography of applicants reached Africa , Asia and, of course, the most diverse countries of Europe ,” the project leader Inesa Kurklietytė shares her impressions.

This annual event has been organised by the Educational Film and TV Studio of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. The project is funded from the European Commission MEDIA TRAINING programme, Lithuanian Ministries of Culture, Education and Science, Culture and Sport Support Fund and Lithuanian Cinematographers Union.
