Before Flying Back to the Earth Goes to Moscow .

Today, on 23 June, the International Moscow Film Festival started with an unexpected international scandal. The chairman of the Grand Jury, the famous director Michael Haneke, informed only more than a week ago that due to the shooting of his new film in New York he would not be able to participate in the festival. This caused reprehension among participants of the Moscow Festival and the global community of cinematographers.
The 28th Moscow Film Festival is a group A festival (together with
Cannes , Venice and Berlin ). When the famous Russian director (and advisor to President V. Putin) Nikita Mikhalkov became the president of the festival, it as if started a new life and received increasingly more attention both from cinematographers and international media.
This year over 2500 journalists from all over the world are going to report on the festival.

For the first time in its history this festival features a programme of documentaries, Free Thinking (Svobodnaya mysl), which consists of ten most significant documentaries created all over the world during the last two years, and also those that have won the most prestigious global awards and have been most successful in cinemas. As the organisers of this festival have said during the presentation of this programme, “it shows documentaries which on the level of conceptualisation compete with serious literature and philosophy.”
